Example
of two ways we can rebuild
Partial Ways scrapping - If a small section
is bad it is possible to do this. Still the
cost is going to be about 15,000. This
is a machine we had to rescrape the ways and change the
ball screws.
Partial rebuild of one X axis way-

Wornout ways with no buttons
Brand new base - Another way is to put in a
new base. The cost of a new base and moving
all parts can run into 100K. You might as
well change the ball screws at this time.
We also have proved how to scrape it on all
axes. We do it only if the machine is to be
fully rebuild. Enjoy some pictures and
videos. It looks simple, anything but. The
process is meticulous. It starts with table
base, table top, ways straightness, ways
parallelism, V ways to be scraped in angle,
then between X and z relationship, then Ball
screw height adjustment and much more. If
you don't understand where the datum point
for each part and the relationship, you will
end up having a boat anchor.
